catcher in the rye- chapter 25

In this chapter Holden goes to a subway station. He reads a magazine article that makes him think that he has cancer. After that, Holden goes down a street and starts getting worried. He is worried because he doesn't think he will get to the other side. He prays to Allie, that Allie will help him make it across. Holden decides to run away, but first, he goes to Phoebe to give her back the money she gave him. When he does this, Phoebe wants to go with him, but Holden refuses to let her. This is the only sign of real maturity that Holden has shown in the entire book, so far. Later, when Holden and Phoebe are at the zoo, she asks him if he is going to stay and Holden tells her yes. He realizes that he will have to face people, who are phonies, his entire life no matter where he goes. However, it won't be too bad if he is around people he loves and cares about.
