catcher in the rye- chapter 21

Holden goes home in this chapter. His parents aren't there, but he talks to Phoebe. He sais "I just felt good for a change." I found this to be very significant because most of the story, Holden has just been complaining about how miserable his life is and about all of the people around him. Phoebe is also very excited. You can tell by the way she jumps to hug Holden after he wakes her up. They talk for a little while and eventually Phoebe finds out that Holden got kicked out of Pencey. She is then very afraid of what their dad will do to Holden. At the end of this chapter, Holden takes some cigarettes out of a box that was his dad's because Holden was out. This shows how much Holden smokes. I think he smokes alot because most of the time he is very lonely, or he just feels lonely.
