catcher in the rye- chapter 23

In this chapter, Holden and Phoebe are still talking. However, their parents come home and Holden goes to hide in the closet. Phoebe lies to mom to cover for Holden. Holden then decides to leave. Phoebe gives him her christmas money because she wants Holden to be ok. This gesture brings Holden to tears. Phoebe gets scared because she does not like to see people crying. Especially people she looks up to, like Holden. Phoebe offers for Holden to sleep with her, but Holden sais that he has to go because Mr. Antolini is waiting for him.
